Preface to Elementary School Study Program for Elementary School Children
"This study program has been developed by Micro-Environment Research Group,
a small, independent, non-profit corporation of the State of Washington,
with funds from Seattle City Light through the Neighborhood Conservation
Demonstration Project.
The project goal is to introduce elementary school children to energy a
lternative from renewable resources. The specific objective is to focus each
child's awareness on available, "on-site" renewable energy and to create
familiarity with conservation principles and techniques; and it is intended
that children share their learning experience with family and friends.
The principles of this renewable energy study program should be useful for
teaching any elementary school grade level, with appropriate teacher
modifications of the individual lesson plans. Our pilot project involved
working with one classroom of combined first, second and third grade
students; the lesson plans were created specifically for this group. We have
worked to create direct experimental involvement for the students which
should give the program a range of applicability allowing its adaptation to
various grade levels. The scope of learning is also intended to be broad,
including language arts, science, history and math, as well as important
elements of creative art...." |
