Seattle City Light funded the study guide as an educational outreach program
for conservation and renewable energy technologies. We not only produced the
study guide, we also ran a demonstration class at Decatur Elementary School. I
was a coauthor of the study guide. My particular emphasis was on the Earth unit. I
also worked in class on a subsequent incarnation of the program aimed at expanding
the age appropriateness of the lessons. I later developed new demonstrations
including a fully functional passive solar hot water heater made from garden hose,
cardboard and a plastic bucket.
