In the late 70s and early 80s I was a volunteer spokesperson for Ecotope Group.
I appeared on a live radio call in show answering unrehearsed questions about
energy conservation and renewable energy technologies. I also presented
information at exhibits of a model solar greenhouse we used for public information
and education. I also appeared in a television interview about solar greenhouse
construction and operation in Western Washington.
I assisted in presenting testimony on a hearing for a side yard, setback
variance to allow construction of an attached solar greenhouse to a Seattle
residence. This hearing established a precedent and was one of the stepping
stones to the implementation of Seattle's Energy Code in February of 1980.
Ecotope Group was founded in 1974. They taught classes in the design and
use of passive and active solar energy for heating water and living spaces.
Ecotope Group also built a methane gas digesting system as a demonstration/research
project on a Monroe, Washington dairy farm. |
